
March 19, 9am and 11am. Join the Museum Curator for Koreshan State Park and the Environmental Specialist for Estero Bay Preserve for a special tour of Mound Key. Explore the island capital of the ancient Calusa with historians and biologists from the Florida Park Service. This special tour of Mound Key Archaeological State Park will highlight recent archaeological discoveries as well as detail the unique ecology of this man-made island. Participants must be willing to transport themselves to the island by kayak or canoe as well as traverse uneven terrain across the island. Be sure to bring plenty of water. Tour will begin on the southeastern landing of the island. Kayaks can be rented from Koreshan State Park or from Lover's Key State Park. Launching from Lovers Key it is about 2 miles to Mound Key.
